5 Reasons to Declutter Your Closet at the Start of the School Year

The return of September is the perfect opportunity to sort through your wardrobe. While saying goodbye to the summer sun, we can rejoice in returning to our little cocoon and diving back into our closet for a major back-to-school clean-up.
Personally, it’s a little habit I picked up years ago that has taught me a lot, so I decided to share my five tips to start this new season on the right foot and looking fabulous!
1 / The trends for 2023/2024 are known
Now that the Fashion Week season is behind us, it’s time to sit down and analyze the trends that stood out to adapt them to our daily lives.
And this year, luck is on our side, as the trends are easy to wear both outside and at work.
Among the most prominent trends from Fashion Week, we start with the women’s tie, which was spotted on the runways of Dior, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Tartan and its famous checkered pattern, very easy to wear in autumn, is one of the big hits from the recent Fashion Weeks, unfortunately influenced by the passing of the English designer Vivienne Westwood.
Jeans, black, and beige will also be very trendy from September until the end of winter.
2 / Sort through your wardrobe to reconnect with yourself and your style
We evolve throughout our lives, and so does our style. A child, a new career, or simply a desire for a change in look means revisiting your wardrobe to adapt it accordingly.
Fashion, far from being superficial, reflects our personality and what we want to show others about ourselves. To be in harmony with the person you truly are, I recommend organizing your wardrobe once or twice a year. These symbolic moments will boost your morale, and your look will accurately reflect who you are.
Take the opportunity to check if your body shape has changed, if you’ve lost weight or, on the contrary, gained a few pounds. If you feel good in your skin and some pieces no longer fit, it’s time to apply Marie Kondo’s method: I thank and donate the clothes that no longer bring me joy.
3 / Rediscover your clothes

Besides the ecological impact that fuels the hyper-polluting textile industry, it’s also a financial loss as hundreds of euros are wasted on clothes that will never be worn.
To avoid this, one solution: sort through your wardrobe to find clothes and wear them (finally) without going through the shopping route.
4 / Sell/give away what you no longer wear
You’ve sorted your wardrobe? Great, now we move on to the next step, which is to sell or donate the clothes you’re not keeping. And you have options because the second-hand market has been expanding for years. Another fashionista will be thrilled to take your pieces and give them a second life.
Vinted, Le Bon Coin, and even Emmaüs, we part ways with our old clothes while making good deals or doing good deeds.
5 / Sort through your wardrobe for more creativity
Another advantage of sorting through your wardrobe: it stimulates your creativity.
Have you never thought of pairing those pants you love with that lovely pastel sweater that highlights your shoulders? Now is the perfect time to create new outfit ideas.
