After the oversized glasses or cyclist spirit – shield, the eyewear trend is now shifting towards finesse and longer silhouettes. Indeed, for the past few months, the optical world has seen the return of forgotten shapes, with rounded or rectangular lines. This change is, as always, a result of the popularity of a trend-aesthetic: librarian core. With Oxford shirts, tailored skirts, and librarian-style glasses, this new trendy chapter, which started last year, is set to reach its peak in 2025, featuring a new emblem: the oval Miu Miu Regard glasses!
Librarian Core: A Glory Moment for Librarian Glasses
They have been taking over social media for a few months and are becoming even more prominent in recent weeks: librarian glasses! (or secretary glasses for some models). These have become the must-have fashion accessory (on your nose, but especially in your Instagram snaps), highlighting the vintage – y2k aspect defining the librarian core.
Worn by many “it-girls” and key figures in the fashion sphere, such as Bella Hadid or Emma Chamberlain, it is especially the queen of clean beauty, Hailey Bieber, who has put the oval Miu Miu glasses in the spotlight.
This last has indeed influenced the current Instagrammable combo, aka the brown tortoiseshell oval Miu Miu glasses + Rhode lip balm.
But the oval acetate glasses are not the only ones to integrate into the librarian core wardrobe. We also find metal models, with or without borders.
Similarly, the pairs with rectangular lines stand out for their retro style reminiscent of “Krys glasses bought in 2003 with the formula 1 pair of glasses bought = 1 pair of sunglasses free”. Introduced during the AW 2023/2024 fashion week, the Miu Miu oval Regard glasses, with their 80’s silhouette, were the star pair of the collection. Priced at €370, we later rediscovered them in a sunglass version. Once again made with their tortoiseshell border, this pair has become a Miu Miu signature model. And it has never ceased to charm, as evidenced today.
Now that the sun is becoming less discreet and the days are starting to get longer, the oval Miu Miu glasses are back out. And more than ever!! This trend is confirmed with the release of identical pairs at stores like HM and Primark (always the first to ctrl+c / ctrl+v the it-pieces).
