Fruit Skin Nails: the manicure we’re going to love this summer!

This publication is also available in: Français Deutsch Italiano Español English (US)

This summer, forget the classic nail polish colors and the really too sober French tips. This summer, an ultra-fresh trend is gently making its way to the tips of our nails: the fruit skin nails. Also known as “fruit nails” or “peel polish,” this delicious and vitamin-rich trend gives your hands a sorbet-glazed-cocktail effect. Just like a fruity sorbet, let’s zoom in on this trend that smells of sunshine, ripe peaches, and fingers dipped in a slushy. I know it sounds tempting, and after reading this article, I promise you will adopt it!

What are fruit skin nails?

Inspired by the skin of fruits (hence the name), the “fruit skin” manicure does not involve painting strawberries on your nails. It is rather a subtle and sensory approach: we play with translucent polishes, jelly effects, shiny reflections, and sometimes micro-glitters, to create an ultra-fresh “juicy skin” effect.

Imagine a manicure that evokes:

  • the glossy red of a ripe cherry,
  • the soft pink of a fresh lychee,
  • the translucent green of a crunchy grape,
  • or the bright orange of an apricot.

The result? Natural and luminous nails, as if wrapped in a thin layer of fruity syrup. As usual, we take inspiration from the undisputed queen of the manicure, Hailey Bieber, who, as you guessed, is already sporting all-fruity nails!

Why adopt fruit skin nails this summer?

First of all, because it’s simply delicious, and the second reason: if you are, like most of us, in Europe, summer is taking a bit of time to start and we want at least some sunshine on our nails.

1. A simple and flattering trend

No need to have long nails or be a pro at nail art. The fruit skin manicure adapts to all lengths and highlights all skin tones. Its “healthy and hydrated nail” effect is simultaneously chic, light, and very modern.

2. A natural alternative to classic French nails

If you love discreet yet trendy manicures, this is the perfect option. Far from overly kitsch patterns or neon colors, the glossy fruity manicure brings a touch of freshness without going overboard. And if you really like kitsch, go all out with small motifs like “fruit basket or colorful checks” that evoke the countryside.

3. A guaranteed mood boost

Fruity colors have a real power over our mood. A cherry red or jelly lemon yellow instantly boosts a minimalist outfit and pairs perfectly with your summer looks. Personally, to lift my spirits, I’ve long preferred a manicure session over shopping, try it, and you’ll see!

How to do fruit skin nails at home?

No need for complicated materials. Here are the 3 key steps:

1. Apply a shiny base coat

It is essential for a clean and luminous finish. It also protects your nails.

2. Choose a fruity translucent polish

Opt for jelly or semi-transparent shades in fruity colors:

  • Lychee pink
  • Papaya orange
  • Cherry red
  • Apple green
  • Icy mango yellow

The best option is still to go to a pro, but if you feel comfortable doing your manicure at home, I recommend these brands: Essie, OPI, Kure Bazaar, or Manucurist. Good news: they already offer collections suitable for this trend.

3. Finish with a gel or glossy top coat

This is what gives the famous plump effect, slightly rounded. Feel free to add a thin layer of golden or pearlescent glitter to enhance shine.

For those who prefer to be pampered by the expert hands of a salon, just request a jelly effect manicure or glass nails, with a semi-transparent fruity polish and an ultra-glossy gel-like finish. Some salons also use the terms “gloss nails,” “juicy nails,” or “glassy fruit nails” for this plump and radiant trend.

I wish you a beautiful summer, full of sorbets, colors, and always in beauty!
