Just like fashion and the return of Y2K outfits, hairstyles in 2024 are experiencing a certain nostalgic feeling. It’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of the trends from the 90s and 2000s making their way back into the limelight! Double braids embody this comforting nostalgia, but in 2024, they adapt in a more modern and thoughtful way, adding, for example, a touch of romance with a charming aesthetic. In short, braids are no longer just a childlike hairstyle and become a true asset for women looking to create new hairstyles.

Of course, this hairstyle trend that has resurfaced from the 90s archives didn’t happen by chance. It was on the runways of Fashion Week at Off-White and Loewe that we first saw models wearing them, followed by stars like Zendaya and Margot Robbie, and finally… by influencers on social media.

How to wear double braids in 2024?

• Double braids one on top of the other

This is a rather original way to embrace the trend. The advantage of this hairstyle is that it is symmetrical, pleasant to look at, while adding dimension and a very “clean” appearance. Don’t hesitate to accessorize the whole look with a hairpin on the side or dangling earrings to balance out the verticality imposed by these double braids.

• Two-in-one double braids

Unlike the stacked double braid we just saw, the two-in-one offers a more bohemian, even romantic side.

We love this slightly casual and slightly tousled aspect of this hairstyle, which remains somewhat chic and pairs very well with the charming aesthetic.

• Childlike double braids

Whether they are stuck to the head or simply done on each side, symmetrical double braids beautifully highlight the face by providing a clear and structured look.

Be sure to choose your outfit and accessories wisely, as we definitely want to avoid looking like a little girl! Don’t hesitate too much on colors and opt for quality materials, light and solid tones. This hairstyle is perfect for winter as it can even be seen under a beanie!

The advantage of braids is that they are an easy hairstyle to achieve and really don’t require much investment other than a few pretty elastics or scrunchies and hairpins if you want to accessorize your hairstyle or tame any flyaways.

Just one rule to follow: choose simple but high-quality and new elastics. With such a simple hairstyle, there’s no way to ruin it by using old elastics. Also: unless you want to try something original, I recommend sticking to the basics and tying your braids with elastics of the same color, preferably in a nude shade that is chic and versatile.
