This publication is also available in: Français Deutsch Italiano Español English (US)
When you want to wear a hat in the fall, the question of choice quickly arises.
And when it comes to choices, there are plenty. Because there are thousands of autumn hats on the market, each promising to add style to a mid-season outfit. From elegant capelines to classic fedora hats, timeless caps, or historical berets, the options are endless. It’s hard to make an informed choice when you’re not used to wearing a hat.
And I know what I’m talking about. I was never a hat person (they told me), and yet, today I can’t do without it anymore.
So, if like me before, you are wondering which hat will make you fall in love this autumn, but you are lost, read carefully the following lines.
I will simply explain how to choose an autumn hat by sharing with you the advice I would have liked to read when I started.
Choosing an autumn hat: reviewing the different models
The first and not least step in choosing the hat that will accompany you in the coming months is to see what the market has to offer.
And you won’t be disappointed! Because if I’m talking about autumn hats, it’s because there are no strictly autumn hats, but rather types of headwear that are perfectly suited to this season.
Let’s take a look, here we go!
The Fedora hat
The Fedora or the Borsalino, which refers to the famous Italian brand that sells these models, is a classic. It is a hat recognized by its wide brim, hollow crown, and band. Made of felt, it adapts very well to the mid-season and comes in different colors.
However, be careful not to wear it when it’s raining. Wool and water don’t mix well!
Classic, it is a hat that adapts to many situations. And it goes well with both a chic and elaborate outfit and a more casual outfit that gives a relaxed look.
You can find them at low prices, starting at 20 euros. But, to wear a hat over time, I recommend investing in better quality pieces. With a budget of 100 euros, you will have a good quality hat that will withstand the test of time. Nice, isn’t it?
The beanie
It remains an essential item in the wardrobe when temperatures start to drop. And don’t be mistaken, it’s not just for warming hearts in the middle of January. The beanie can also be worn in the mid-season.
Moreover, beanies come in different lengths, patterns, solid colors, made of wool, cotton, knit, or faux fur… In short, there are many varieties! And depending on your outfit, you can easily switch from one model to another to satisfy your stylistic desires, because the beanie goes well with almost anything.
Like other autumn hats, beanies can be found at all prices and everywhere. From entry-level models to designer pieces, there is something for every taste and style. Enough to blow your mind!
The cap
You know the cap.
It has made a strong comeback in recent years. However, as Morgane explains in her analysis of the cap, this headgear has stood the test of time, protecting the heads of several generations. And in terms of style, the adaptation is different in 2022. Everyone wears a cap, regardless of the season, gender, or style. The cap is worn as much for sports as for lazy Sundays in a tracksuit or to appear stylish but casual.
If you want to wear it in the autumn, know that it is not a difficult piece to wear. However, opt for a mid-season workwear-style outfit to ensure the right combination. For example, you can wear it with jeans, a shirt, and a sweatshirt on your shoulders.
The beret
The beret or flat cap is a variation of the traditional cap. It is recognizable by its flat shape. Originally made of tweed, it is now available in different materials, as well as more modern colors, prints, and patterns.
The beret is an authentic piece that is sufficient in itself thanks to its shape. So we like to wear it with a simple, efficient, or minimalist outfit to highlight the headgear. However, to truly bring out the authenticity of the piece, the beret also goes well with a wool jacket.
But to wear it well, the advice is to dress it effortlessly. Take it easy, with your hair down, positioned at the back of your head to look well-dressed, but without pretending. Quite an art!
