How does Valentino reinvent Fuchsia Pink?

This publication is also available in: Français Deutsch Italiano Español

At Paris Fashion Week, a pink monochrome fashion show took place, shining the spotlight on the Valentino show.

On Sunday, March 6th, at the Carreau du Temple in Paris, a new kind of fashion show took place: a pink-tinted monochrome runway. Pierpaolo Piccioli, artistic director of the Italian fashion house Valentino, unveiled the fashion pieces from his Fall/Winter 2022/2023 collection last weekend. Let’s take a closer look at this eventful fashion show.

Pink as the backdrop

On Sunday, March 6th, during Fashion Week, the Carreau du Temple, an iconic cultural venue in Paris, was dressed in pink to host the monochrome fashion show by the Italian brand Valentino. From the front row, guests were mesmerized not only by the show itself, but also by the decor. Just like the collection, the hall was dressed in its finest attire, the Pink PP. An ode to the color of “love, energy, community, and freedom” as stated by Pierpaolo Piccioli. This staging was specially designed to enhance the silhouette rather than focusing on the initial appearance of the presented looks. This is the approach defended by the designer, as for him, the intensity of the decor and the abundance of pink allows the eye to focus not on the whole, but on the details such as the models’ facial expressions, the silhouette, the neckline of the clothes, etc. In his fashion show, the Valentino designer sought out uniformity, both in the staging of the show and in the pieces themselves. By subtracting the superficial, the designer focuses on the essentials. This is his way of highlighting the physicality, attitudes, and textures through his monochromatic palette, and thus attracting the public’s attention differently.

Monochromism as a style exercise

In this fashion show, the use of monochromism proves to be a true stylistic feat. The haute couture pieces are showcased differently, in their utmost simplicity, just like the silhouettes. As for the ready-to-wear collection, the Italian label played with graphic lines and impeccably cut garments. We also note the emphasis on volumes, from short and puffy dresses to long and slender coats. As for the textures, the keyword is multitude: sequins, veils, knits… They represent diversity as a way to honor the designer’s vision. And as if to contrast day and night, the second part of the show offered its guests a deep black show against a fuchsia backdrop. A poetically represented opposition.

“Pink PP,” the new Valentino signature

Contrary to lovers of sobriety, “Pink PP” will be the next trendy color for winter 2023. And this shade was specially developed by the designer himself for his collection. Striking yet sophisticated, Piccioli’s fuchsia is meant to be modern. And this hue will officially be added to the Pantone color selection, potentially becoming the new reference. Aside from the perfect mastery of style, “Pink PP” also invites us to see the world differently. “I wanted to create a moment of reflection on what is happening.” It is a color that, according to the creator of the Italian fashion house, invites everyone to dig deep to see and understand the essence of creation. “I am interested in the idea of humanism that fuels creativity.” Staying true to his values, “Pink PP” is also about bringing a bit of lightness and optimism, as a way to fight against the prevailing gloominess.
