What is the common point between your gut and a beauty glow-up? None, at first glance. Yet, think again: your gut is your best beauty ally. Well… if it’s not the case yet, it will become one. For a long time, the gut has been regarded as the second brain. Its health indeed influences mood, your overall health, your hair, and… your skin. For a true glow-up, before rushing into the bathroom, start by opening your fridge. The skin is an organ that needs softness from the inside. In this article, I will introduce you to a new facet of the gut: a friend that wants the best for you.
1/ The skin: returning to calm
The skin is a living house. Sometimes we think of it as merely a surface to clean or “correct” with products that can be a bit too chemical, whereas it functions like a small internal forest, with its inhabitants, cycles, and balances. In short, the skin is an organ with its own functioning.
When the microbiome is disturbed, the skin is visibly less beautiful, so it is essential to pause and rethink your lifestyle with the goal of restoring the softness that the skin lacks.
From now on, we adopt:
- a minimalist cleansing routine with simple and natural skincare
- comforting and nourishing textures.
- biotic actives (prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics) that nourish the skin without overstimulating it.
We temporarily stop using exfoliants, strong acids, and weekly peels. Rest assured, stripping your skin does not make it cleaner. We let the skin breathe and regain its rhythm. A skin that is less assaulted is a skin that naturally restores its microbial balance.
2/ Sleep: the biological reset
The microbiome loves routine. So does the skin. Sleep is the time when everything repairs: skin barrier, inflammation, cellular renewal, deep hydration.
A short or restless night increases stress markers… which immediately alters the composition of the microbiome. The result: tight skin, imperfections, dull complexion.
Good sleep hygiene is therefore a beauty act in itself:
- fixed hours,
- soft lighting,
- early screen time cutoff,
- cool room.
A simple routine that changes everything about the glow and stability of the skin.
3/ Stress: the invisible enemy of the microbiome
Chronic stress is one of the main causes of skin dysbiosis. Under pressure, the body releases cortisol, which directly disrupts the hydrolipidic barrier and leaves the microbiome defenseless.
You can see it immediately:
redness, inflammation, impatience, sudden eruptions.
Learning to take “pauses” in your day is an act of care.
Slow breathing, walking, writing, some stretching… The body relaxes, the microbiome breathes, the skin calms down.
4/ Food: also nourish the skin
We often underestimate how much the gut and skin communicate constantly. A calm, varied, and nourished intestinal microbiome positively influences the skin microbiome.
Here are some key areas to focus on:
Fermented foods
Kimchi, kefir, kombucha, miso, artisanal yogurts… These foods naturally reseed the intestinal microbiome. They help reduce inflammation and support a brighter and more even skin.
Raw foods
Raw vegetables, crunchy salads, very fresh fruits provide fibers, enzymes, and essential micronutrient density for cellular renewal. They support digestion and, indirectly, skin quality.
Spices
Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cumin… Spices have a fascinating anti-inflammatory power. They promote gentler digestion, reduce oxidative stress, and support the overall balance of the microbiome.
Eating alive, varied, and generously spiced food is to offer the skin a continuous source of protective nutrients.
5/ Acupuncture: rebalancing from within
An ancient practice, acupuncture is particularly interesting for skin health. It acts on internal tensions, stress, circulation, digestion, in short, all the elements that directly influence the balance of the microbiome.
A regular session can:
- reduce inflammation,
- soothe skin reactions,
- improve sleep quality,
- support better hormonal balance.
It is a gentle holistic treatment that brings the body back into a state of harmony, and the skin quickly reflects this new inner fluidity.
