The recap of the MET Gala looks!

Every year, the MET Gala draws the attention of the entire world with its extravagant red carpet and the celebrities of the moment who dare to wear the most outrageous outfits. The theme for this 2024 edition was “The garden of times”. This theme dictates the dress code for the guests.
As a fashion editor, I’m sharing with you the outfits I loved the most and those that left me less impressed.
It should be noted that some guests went their own way and disregarded the dress code. Nonetheless, this edition was rich in unlikely looks. Here’s a brief overview of a few looks (because we have to make choices).
And you? Let us know what your favorite outfits are!
My favorite looks from the MET Gala 2024
- Nicki Minaj
Right on theme, the singer wears Marni with a matching golden yellow dress and shoes. In her hair, we find sculptural and colorful flowers. The length of the dress is perfect, the light makeup perfectly highlights the look, and Nicki Minaj plays the game 100%, which is fantastic.
- Lewis Hamilton
I love everything about this look, the hairstyle, the attitude. The gold jewelry truly enhances the black outfit with embroidery. Lewis Hamilton’s hand tattoos elevate the overall look. Designed by Burberry, this look aligns with the theme with an added dark touch. In short, zero flaws for this red carpet!
- Michelle Yeoh
The aluminum dress, I love it! The look from Balenciaga is at the peak of its form. This choice may not please everyone, but personally, I love the total look, as the brand knows how to do well.
- Sydney Sweeney
My number one feminine look from this MET edition. Sydney Sweeney is stunning in this Miu Miu dress in an incredible color with perfect volume. The leather gloves contrast beautifully with the softness of the dress. The glacier blue flowers with black stems are gorgeous. The color of her hair, the shade of lipstick… in short, I adore this look.
- Anok Yai
Being dressed in jewelry is a dream that Anok Yai realized at the MET Gala 2024.
This Swarovski bodysuit covers the model’s entire body to reveal her shapes. I love the fact that her hands are also covered.
- Cardi B
Imposing, that’s the word that comes to mind when looking at Cardi B’s dress. For me, the MET Gala is the only place where personalities can afford all the eccentricities, and this dress by Windowsen is exactly what I expect to see on the Red Carpet.
- Kaia Gerber
Minimal and shiny, this scaly dress from Prada is a marvel. It offers a sleek look that, while simple, adheres to the theme.
- Lena Mahfouf
Our national Frenchie at the MET Gala! Dressed entirely in Schiaparelli, she sports a top made of sculpted flowers. The flowers are exactly on theme, and there’s no need to add more; the draped black dress is enough and highlights the craftsmanship of the flowers.
- Naomi Campbell
Absolutely a mythical model, Naomi Campbell needs little to dress well. She wears a steel blue fringed dress from Burberry (a trend we’re slowly seeing return this spring).
- Dua Lipa
The singer opted for a dress with a lot of character from Marc Jacobs. The cape on the side adds a dramatic touch, perfect for the occasion.
- Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman always manages to surprise us at the MET with magical outfits. This year’s bet paid off, with a two-tone dress from Balenciaga worthy of a real princess film.
- Taylor Russell
Taylor Russell looks like a Greek goddess draped in Loewe. The wet-effect top with tree bark patterns is enhanced by laurels that seem to embrace her body. The bottom resembles an outfit from ancient Greece. An incredibly poetic look from Loewe that we love.
- Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner looks absolutely stunning in this precious ensemble from Givenchy. The outfit seems to be from an old film with a pointed corset and rising shoulder pads. I love the elegant and unpretentious hairstyle.
- Alton Mason
My favorite menswear look. This outfit from Thom Browne is so rich in details that it deserves a full article. The open shirt (and let’s skip over Alton Mason’s abs) with various patterns and oversized sleeves. The wedge-heeled shoes and the light veil make it a perfect outfit for closing a Fashion Week show.
I like it but not too much
- Karlie Kloss
Flowers, a long princess dress, this Swarovski dress fits perfectly with the theme and flares out in a very elegant way. I would have preferred this outfit without the stems of the flowers reaching up to the neck, which I think is unnecessary, but it’s all a matter of taste.
- Lana Del Rey
We’re on theme, which isn’t the case for all guests, but I don’t know, there’s something that bothers me about this outfit by Alexander McQueen. I love the dress, the natural color, and the branches that rise along the body. The “reindeer wood” aspect bothers me a bit as it adds a costume effect to the outfit that, in my opinion, is not necessary.
- Kim Kardashian
I really like this outfit from Maison Margiela by John Galliano. Kim opted for the ultra-short short trend with a transparent silver skirt. I expected nothing less from the Queen of fashion. I love the vest worn simply and the platinum color. I think I expected a bit more volume from Kim Kardashian’s outfit.
- Kylie Jenner
Kylie looks stunning in this dress from Oscar de la Renta, but the only downside for me is that there are no details that reference the theme of the evening.
- Emma Chamberlain
While the gothic look in Jean-Paul Gaultier suits the innocence of Emma Chamberlain, I prefer to see her in a lighter, more naive look that highlights her unique aura.
Not really a fan of these looks
- Zendaya
I’m not sure I understand the choice of this dress from Givenchy, which is too serious and gives off more of a witch story vibe than an enchanted representation of the theme “Garden of times”.
- Alex Newell
Same observation as for Zendaya. I think the theme offers so many possibilities that it’s a shame to opt for a black dress that shows too many details.
- Brooklyn Peltz Beckham
The Dior suit fits him wonderfully, but Brooklyn could have clearly made an effort to add at least a small detail that references the theme of the evening.
- Sarah Pidgeon
While the previous looks were too witchy for me, this one by Christopher John Rogers makes me think of Cinderella. I’m not a fan of the fall of the dress and the construction of the skirt’s ring, which is too visible for my taste. It’s a shame, as the red top of the dress is very well cut and enhances the silhouette.
- Jonathan Bailey
We can commend the effort to be on theme, but personally, I find that the two flowers on the Loewe suit feel too “added” and lack cohesion with the rest of the outfit.
- Chloë Sevigny
Well, really too much of everything, ruffles, patterns. I don’t really appreciate the fall, which is a bit too messy. We can highlight the meticulous execution of the dress.
- Isabelle Hupert
I find that this mermaid look from Balenciaga does not highlight her body enough. I really like the dress, but I’m not sure it’s the right choice for her.
