In these early days of January, it is customary to pick up good habits again. Such as replacing scrolling with reading<\/strong>. And if you need a little motivation to do so, good news, book clubs are more popular than ever! From Martin Scorsese to Dua Lipa<\/strong>, along with content creators seeing their community grow through recommendations, books are reclaiming a dear place in our hearts, aligning with the current desire to reconnect with so-called analog hobbies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bookstagram, Booktok, Substack… The new era of literary enthusiasts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After the podcast craze, it seems that another gathering is becoming successful. Namely, that of book clubs. Indeed, in recent years, an assertive return of literature <\/strong>has been noticed on social networks. Initially appearing in the form of content presenting recommendations and reviews of books, small reading groups have formed, resulting from a constantly growing community seeking to share its love for words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This trend of digital book clubs highlights the current desire to reconnect with so-called analog activities<\/strong>, far from screens, while using the power of networks to connect with people who share common interests and live across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the success of book clubs is such that #bookstagram and #booktok content, which has echoed popular platforms like Substack or Fable, has allowed creators to gather large communities and also propose events stepping out of the digital realm to meet<\/strong> and share their reading experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is notably the case for Tanya Burr, with her Chapter book club shared on Substack, for which she organizes a monthly meeting on Zoom, or in person when possible, with a most friendly atmosphere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, these creators come to open conversations and link the arts<\/strong> through their book clubs. This is the case with Jack Edwards and his Inklings Book Club, with which he recently interviewed author Maggie O’Farrell, as well as Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal on the occasion of the release of the adaptation directed by Chlo\u00e9 Zhao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, some familiar figures have also ventured into the adventure, such as Emma Watson or Dua Lipa, who developed Service 95 and expanded it into a podcast. Or even Martin Scorsese, a book club enthusiast, whose 2020 reading inspired one of his latest productions, Die My Love<\/em>, directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring Jennifer Lawrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literature as a source of inspiration at the moment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is a fact that, in addition to inspiring the creation of numerous book clubs, literary works are more than ever the basis for adaptations intended for the big screen or streaming platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, after the latest film by Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein<\/em><\/a>, which received a warm welcome at festivals and upon its release on Netflix, the highly anticipated The Housekeeper<\/em> has just hit theaters, soon followed by People We Meet on Vacation<\/em> and His & Hers<\/em> on the Tudum platform. And the coming months will not be lacking in adaptations<\/strong> with many titles announced, including Hamnet, Bridgerton S04, Wuthering Heights, Project Hail Mary, The Devil Wears Prada, The Enchantresses 2, The Odyssey, The Dog Stars, Verity, Remain, Hunger Games: Rising Sun on the Harvest, Dune Part 3, Sense and Sensibility<\/em>…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And books and book clubs do not only inspire the audiovisual landscape; fashion also makes them its muses. Recently, it was at Dior that the classics of literature were unveiled, on tote bags designed by Jonathan Anderson<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some applications to accompany your reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’re like me and tend to have a new reading idea every hour, read 5 books simultaneously, and store\/lend your books here and there… Here are two applications that I recommend to help you see things more clearly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Liblib: creating a virtual library<\/strong> of your works. Ideal for remembering titles you have + the possibility to make subcategories (e.g.: borrowed books). Special mention for the fun aspect of scanning your books with your phone (or a scanner to buy) and becoming a perfect librarian who goes beep beep!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Goodreads: an application to create reading lists<\/strong> and track your progress, but also a platform gathering a large community, allowing you to read reviews, rate and discover books, connect with other readers, and even participate in reading challenges<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
