Jacquemus Fashion Show: The 7 Unforgettable Facts to Remember

This publication is also available in: Français Deutsch Italiano Español English (US)

Capri is not over… and it’s even a beginning for Simon Porte-Jacquemus who, after opening a new boutique, is definitely enjoying his best season under the Italian sun. 15 years of Jacquemus, it’s worth celebrating! And it was in a small committee that the Provençal designer unveiled his collection in homage to the film Le Mépris by Jean-Luc Godard on the heights of Casa Malaparte, which stretches out over the horizon of the Mediterranean.

Dua Lipa, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laetitia Casta, and Jennie Kim were among the guests, as well as his family and naturally his husband Marco Maestri.

Let’s revisit a sunny and emotional show that elevates the French designer even further to the status of fashion icon.

1/ The inspiration from the film Le Mépris

Normally, you cannot film at Casa Malaparte. But Simon Porte-Jacquemus’s perseverance convinced the heirs that his show would pay tribute to the film Le Mépris filmed in the house in 1963 under the camera of Jean-Luc Godard.

The show opens with the first model wrapped in a feathered robe, reminiscent of the final scene of the film where Brigitte Bardot and Michel Piccoli converse on the terrace of the house.

Another outfit, another vibe with a pale pink striped shirt referencing an outfit of Brigitte Bardot.

2/ The grandeur of Casa Malaparte

Built in the late 1930s for the Italian writer, diplomat, and videographer Curzio Malaparte, a figure of resistance against Mussolini’s fascism.

In 2023 at the MET Gala, Simon Porte Jacquemus wore a jacket, inside the lining of which was sewn a photo of the villa taken by Karl Lagerfeld.

The designer, who passed away in 2019, had also released a book simply titled Casa Malaparte in 1998.

In 2016, Casa Malaparte was once again honored in cinema as the official poster of the Cannes Film Festival.

A villa with an intellectual past that has always fascinated designers for its culture, geographical architecture, and breathtaking views over the Mediterranean.

3/ Under the sun… exactly

40 guests under 40 degrees in the sun. A glass of water before the show for the guests, and off we go for the show!

If the place is beautiful, it’s difficult to find a shady spot. In Capri, in June, it is hot, very hot, and while Casa Malaparte is an architectural jewel with its terrace offering breathtaking views and cinematic stairs, it is impossible to escape the sun.

Fortunately, most guests dressed in Jacquemus (except for Giancarlo Giammetti in a white suit by Valentino) wore light colors dear to Simon Porte-Jacquemus, with lots of pink, white, and some red for singer Peggy Gou.

4/ The importance of geometry

A collection heavily inspired by architecture featuring triangle necklines supported by triangular shoulder pads.

The wide-brimmed hat is reinvented as a bustier at Jacquemus, transforming it into a top with soft, geometric shapes.

Some zebra patterns scattered among well-cut silhouettes. Geometry yes, but humor, especially the humor that persists with Simon Porte-Jacquemus, who enjoys making his shirt collars asymmetrical to create “mistakes,” as he puts it. Neither minimalist nor maximalist, just simple and pure.

5/ Mama, grandma, and the rest of the family

The family, so dear to Jacquemus, was there. Let’s start from the beginning, with his mother. At the end of the show, Simon, as usual, paid tribute to his mother, who passed away in a car accident when he was just 18. He took her name “Jacquemus” when he created his brand at 21. Then, his grandmother, Liline. She is a fan of his, and he is a fan of hers; the circle is complete.

His husband Marco Maestri, moved to tears at the end of the show, warmly embraces him. The couple also became the proud parents of twins this spring!

The rest of the family continues to support him, and those who couldn’t attend the show are waiting just below the house… in boats moored close to the casa.

6/ Capri blue and pastels

The models displayed a slow, very slow, dolce vita walk, allowing the guests to fully enjoy the creations.

Light colors, including lots of white, blue, and pastel pink, a bit of turquoise, and touches of red pay tribute to a scene from the film Le Mépris where Brigitte Bardot steps out of the bathroom in a red towel.

The model Deva Cassel wore one of the standout outfits from the show, very dolce vita, with a flowing top with ruffles and a transparent skirt.

7/ The K-pop softness above the Mediterranean

Last but not least, singer Jennie Kim, international K-pop star and member of the group Blackpink, closed the show in a black, flared, figure-hugging dress, moving in a slow and sensual manner. It was Jennie’s first show, which, according to Simon Porte-Jacquemus, was very touching.

The designer embraced her at the end of the show before greeting his audience.

On Instagram, the Korean singer thanked Simon, adding that he is an inspiration to the world.

Conclusion: I often watch fashion shows, sometimes on the runways, mostly on YouTube… and I must say I was surprised to be so moved watching the 47 silhouettes that make up this Jacquemus show. Especially since I watched it on my smartphone, in between tasks. I can’t even imagine what the guests must have felt. Seriously, this show is more than fashion, it’s art. Go watch it; I hope you will love it as much as I did!
