This first chapter of the Paris 2024 Olympics was rich in emotions and sporting feats, but that’s not all… Indeed, with blue, white, and red patterns, nail arts worthy of the MET Gala, graphic make-up, and even dental rhinestones, this event has proven to be an unexpected trendsetter! Let’s look back at 5 fashion and beauty trends to remember from the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Why has everyone adopted patriotcore?
Here’s another word ending in -core. Recently, aesthetics have been multiplying, to the point of losing track. After tennis core, which has gained popularity since the release of the Challenger film, sport is once again influencing trends. However, here, it’s not the practice that inspires, but the colors of our athletes’ flags.
Indeed, the Paris 2024 Olympics have transformed into a giant catwalk showcasing the best supporter outfits. The arteries of the French capital have seen jerseys, hats, make-up, and other t-shirts flaunting the colors of all nations. And this is not limited to fan zones by the mats! No, supporter outfits have become the new pieces to adopt throughout the day, with a great sense of pride!
These perfect supporter outfits have become, in just 17 days, the symbol of unity and have earned their noble title: patriotcore!
Olympians, guests, and supporters from around the world brought out their best outfits to cheer during this event. While Emma Chamberlain and Kendall Jenner showed their support for Team USA, British diver Tom Daley knitted his traditional Olympic sweater. This inspired me to create a DIY crochet bucket hat in blue colors for the Paralympics!
Brands seized the opportunity by launching their supporter collections, like Coq Sportif. Ralph Lauren even went as far as releasing replicas of the jackets worn by the delegation during the opening ceremony. These creations were quickly adopted, particularly by Léna Situation, who just announced the opening of a new pop-up in Paris.

How the Paris 2024 Olympics revived grillz?
While patriotcore presents itself as a rather “obvious” trend at these games, another trend is rather… unexpected. Indeed, leotards were not the only things shining on the mats this year; dental rhinestones and grillz made a grand comeback between flips and twists.
Long associated with 80s/90s rap or the Y2K style, gold dental implants, grillz, or dental rhinestones were part of a bygone era. However, this sparkling detail has reconnected with trends, particularly with artists linked to music like Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Rosalia. Recently, fashion has given it another chance, notably at Louis Vuitton, where Pharrell Williams reimagined it in a western cowboy vibe.
Sometimes discreet, or bold, grillz found themselves in the spotlight during the Olympics. We saw them worn in the colors of the Olympic rings and jersey numbers by Nyara Sabally, sparkling in gold and diamonds for Jordan Chiles, or in a more subtle rhinestone version on Simone Biles.
How beauty allows athletes to express their personality?
Just because one aims for physical performance doesn’t mean one has to neglect their glamorous side! On the contrary. As Sha’Carri Richardson explained in an interview, the choice of her manicure or hair (color, cut…) is a way to express her personality on the track and to feel good. The athlete, who has notably modeled for the Jacquemus x Nike collaboration and on the cover of Vogue, is not the only one to highlight the link between sport and beauty. Gymnast Jordan Chiles filmed her make-up routine for the 2024 Olympics for Vogue’s YouTube channel.
What make-up to adopt to look as classy as Simone Biles and Ilona Maher?
Applied by their teams or touched up using a phone at the edge of the mat, like Sunisa Lee, the athletes’ make-up has revealed beautiful inspirations to follow.
We note the timeless red nail polish of rugby player Ilona Maher, or the simple and elegant beauty of Simone Biles, with her Fenty Beauty blush and NYX lip pencil. But also some successful daring choices, notably with graphic liner strokes, like on Rebeca Andrade in a glitter version or with Jordan Chiles who opted for a white liner.
Be at the top of your game down to your fingertips
Elegance made its way even to the fingertips at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with manicures adopting patriotcore or aiming for boldness. The Bridgerton atmosphere revealed itself on the cameo-style nails of Keely Hodgkinson, while a symphony of colors and textures took over Sha’Carri Richardson’s manicure. Rebeca Andrade showcased a glittery nail polish that could overshadow Hailey Bieber’s glazed donut nails.
Hairstyles balancing practicality and glam
When it comes to hair, practicality is the top priority. However, this hasn’t stopped our Olympians from having fun with their hair throughout the competition. The opening ceremony allowed for long hair, as seen with Ebony Morrison. Then, once on the quest for gold, hair was tied up but embellished with bows and ribbons (Melissa Jefferson, Charokee Young), little beads (Noah Lyles), or braids in the colors of the flag (Akoko Komlanvi) to add a personal touch to the official attire.
Thus, by adopting these trends and channeling Kim Ye-ji’s style, you will become the fashion icon for the remainder of the games!
