While it is customary to associate fringes with western-inspired outfits or biker jackets, in 2026, they are breaking away from clichés more than ever to carve out a place in fashion shows. From glamorous outfits to everyday wardrobes, let’s discover today how the fringe trend aims to assert itself this spring!

The Bold Return of the Fringe Trend

If there is one place where we can sense the upcoming fashion trends, aside from fashion shows, it is definitely on the red carpets of film festivals and other 7th art ceremonies. Indeed, while Venice teased us with the first looks designed by Jonathan Anderson for Dior, the latest cinema events confirmed the anticipated return of the fringe trend this spring.

Notably, we can mention the Ahluwalia dress worn by Wunmi Mosaku at the BAFTAs last night. In addition to adopting fringes in a graphic manner, it was revealed in the color of the season predicted by Pinterest.

Additionally, last January, among all the fashion moments that marked the Golden Globe ceremony, Renate Reinsve stood out as the queen of the night with a strapless gown designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton. This creation, made of 800,000 beads arranged on 2,900 fringes, required 2,840 hours of work, resulting in a spectacular outcome.

On the runway, the fringe trend has proven its versatility, both in appearance and in how it integrates into wardrobes. Adding depth, texture, and volume, these fine strips have challenged the imagination of designers this season, turning this sometimes-mocked detail into a fashion asset that is both retro and modern. And it’s safe to say there is something for everyone!

Fringes in All Shapes and Materials

To say the least, in 2026, fringes are making a bold statement! While some integrate them in a rather traditional and minimalist manner, with leather cutouts (Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein), others explore the materials further, offering the silhouette a festive, even playful touch.

Among the creative explorations that have impressed us so far this year, we think of Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta. With dresses, jackets, and skirts featuring fringes redefining silhouettes and movements.

Also, Pierpaolo Piccioli’s inaugural collection at Balenciaga incorporated fringed details in various approaches and materials. Integrated at certain points in the silhouette, they balance the shapes and add ton-on-ton details.

A quest for innovation has also been observed in the latest collections. On one hand, at Dior, with a bag with fringes as long as a train and in a grass color, unveiled for Anderson’s first Haute Couture collection (not to mention his grass coat made for LOEWE that fascinated us).

The same goes for Alaïa by Pieter Mulier, where we discovered tights covered in fringes, immediately adding a dramatic touch to the walk.

Feathers as an Alternative to Fringes?

Traditional fringes, as we know them, are not the only elements bringing movement to silhouettes this spring 2026. Indeed, other elements are stepping in with just as much boldness. Like the bouquet of materials composing the spectacular skirt imagined by Matthieu Blazy for his first Chanel show, rich in both volume and color.

Among the materials and craftsmanship used in the latest shows, we observed a great attraction for featherwork. Seen at Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta, we also admired it in Jacquemus’s Le Palmier collection, where the designer integrated it in various ways, creating a fringe-like spirit that is more or less airy.

The feather was revealed in its entirety on some pieces, and in a novel silhouette of confetti on others. Adding a playful touch to the fabric, Simon Porte Jacquemus turned to Maison Février to create these details filled with finesse and lightness.

The designer with the sunny brand had already reinterpreted fringes for his “Le Paysan” show. Notably with sorts of fringe pom-poms present on the Arlésienne skirt, recently worn in concert by Olivia Dean.

Thus, whether they reveal themselves in finely cut leather, emerge through beaded or metallic strips, integrate feathers or even macramé… One thing is for sure, the fringe trend is indeed back, and everyone is going to find something for themselves.
