The slogan t-shirt: the piece that gets people talking

This publication is also available in: Français Deutsch Italiano Español English (US)

Whether it is a statement of engagement or a nod to our favorite director or film, the graphic t-shirt is the new must-have piece of the moment. Increasingly embraced, it even found its way to the spotlight at the Cannes Film Festival, overshadowing all tuxedos and gowns from major fashion houses on the red carpet. Both simple and effective, it serves as an extension of our personality, adding a touch of originality to our outfits. Or it highlights our values by supporting causes that are close to our hearts.

The graphic t-shirt: the new essential for every self-respecting cinephile!

When we love cinema, we love it with a capital L. Thus, in terms of fashion, it is only natural that Woody, the Gryffindor crest, or even the poster of E.T. have proudly shared the stage with our timeless pieces and linen garments for years… However, these classic derivative pieces (heavily relying on nostalgic marketing) now face a significant competitor: the graphic t-shirt. Yes, this piece knows how to charm us!

Between niche references that highlight our cinephilia like no fabric has done before, or replicas of pieces worn in iconic scenes that have marked us… This top has become our new essential, and brands have turned it into their new weapon of mass destruction – of our wallets. Because yes, our passion knows no budget…

“I Told Ya”: the LOEWE x Challengers graphic t-shirt

One of the recent successes of the graphic t-shirt dates back to last year. For his film Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino teamed up with Jonathan Anderson (then creative director of LOEWE) for costume design. Among the pieces created, a top quickly ignited passions, both in the film and in real life: the “I Told Ya” t-shirt.

Inspired by the look of JFK Jr. worn in the 80s and becoming the emblem of the film, this graphic t-shirt quickly slipped into the ranks of a trendy piece to have. Sold by LOEWE for €250, it quickly became out of stock. Worn by the cast and fans of the film, it also inspired variations, including the shirt worn by Josh O’Connor during the London premiere, featuring the slogan.

When cinephiles declare their love for directors

In addition to carrying films in our hearts, we also have a special attachment to those who create them. And literally, we wear them on us! To do this, once again, the graphic t-shirt finds us to be very good customers…

Featured in the next film by Joachim Trier (the mind behind the “Oslo Trilogy” and whose new film promises to play with our emotions again), Elle Fanning appeared at the photocall for Sentimental Value at the Cannes Film Festival wearing a top with her director’s name emblazoned on it. A model designed by Dylan’s T-shirt Club, in the vibe of A24 t-shirts, taking a cue from Charli XCX‘s nod to certain artists during the last Coachella.

The Cannes Film Festival was also celebrated in the outfits. Just like Paul Mescal, present for The History of Sound by Oliver Hermanus, who opted for a graphic t-shirt / souvenir from the festival.

When the graphic t-shirt supports

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the graphic t-shirt is also highly valued for conveying values and supporting causes. Indeed, this piece offers great visibility to these causes and can promote fundraising efforts.

“Drink Your Milk” the creative and committed collab The Shameless Fund x LOEWE

Founded by Jonathan Bailey (Crashing, Bridgerton Chronicles, Wicked…) The Shameless Fund is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support the LGBTQ+ community. Focusing on creative collaborations, the “Drink Your Milk” t-shirt was conceived alongside LOEWE, with a percentage of each sale donated to the organization. Its design and slogan are directly referencing the series Fellow Travelers (brilliantly, in which the actor plays one of the title roles), and for the occasion, the cast participated in the campaign.

“Protect The Dolls”, the message of a battle signed by Connor Ives for Trans Lifeline

Recently worn by Pedro Pascal at the premiere of Thunderbolts, the graphic t-shirt “Protect The Dolls” has become a symbol of support for the trans community and its rights in recent months. Unveiled last April by Troye Sivan during Coachella, the t-shirt designed by Connor Ives donates its proceeds to the Trans Lifeline organization. In addition to raising funds through the purchase of the piece, this creation has helped to shed light on the foundation and encourage new donations.

In essence, whether to showcase passions or support causes, the graphic t-shirt always does it with flair!
