“Summer’s gonna be hot, summer’s gonna be hot” as Stone & Charden used to say. And a hot summer is a summer spent by the water! To stay on top of the trend, even in a swimsuit, we have prepared a selection of beach towels from your favorite brands, to bring a sunny catwalk spirit to the beach.

Which material of beach towels to choose?

Whether you spend the summer in Pampelonne, opt for a stay on a boat, or go on a summer road trip with a backpack, the sought-after beach towel model will not be the same. Indeed, depending on your comfort desires and space constraints, some beach towels may be preferable to others.

In response to these different expectations, we have observed, over the years, a growing range of varieties of beach towels. Both in weaving, shape, folding, and transportation. This is to adapt as best as possible to everyone’s sunny breaks. Thanks to the evolution of technologies, in terms of fibers and weaving, the compositions of beach towels have thus been revised to improve their performance, quality, and durability.

The classic cotton and polyester beach towels

The first model is the classic cotton and polyester beach towel, thick, fluffy, and cushioning the bumps of small pebbles that land exactly where it hurts.

It has been with us for years and is a guarantee of quality and comfort. It wraps us perfectly from head to toe, like a warm and salty hug from the ocean air. With it, anything is possible in terms of style, whether it’s a solid color or a representation of your unconfessed passions between Dolphin, Johnny Hallyday, or memories of another summer brought back from Palavas-les-Flots… Between kitsch and trendy patterns, graphic designers give their all in designs that surely make an impression by the water.

While they dry quickly between two salty outings, the downside of these beach towels is the space they take up. Carrying them under your arm is fine, but when it comes time to fit them into the micro luggage 40x30x20 cm included in the cheapest Vueling flight ticket, that’s where it gets tricky…

Why are microfiber beach towels so popular?

Microfiber beach towels, a trendy model for a few years now, have succeeded in transitioning from the pool to the beach, a bit like the sock sandal, to be honest!

Now covering the kilometers of sand on our golden coasts, the microfiber texture allows, on one hand, to dry you well, and especially, to take up very little space in your belongings. And it’s this point that has made it so popular, especially among road trip and backpacking enthusiasts. On the comfort side, however, it’s better not to be sensitive on a pebble beach, as its thinness does not create a fluffy layer like its counterpart. In terms of design, the models more often lean towards the minimalism of a single color rather than a rainbow of colors and tribal patterns.

The fouta for a bohemian spirit

Cousin to the beach towels, the fouta enchants with its bohemian vibe and a slightly more refined style.

Very thin, it allows for easy storage, however it won’t absorb the leftover saltwater on your skin as well and may get wet quickly. Its strong point is that it can also be wrapped around your waist in a pareo style.

What shape of beach towel to choose?

Round, square, rectangular… It’s up to you to choose what is most practical based on your size. Round towels, while pretty, require a large diameter to comfortably lie on. Provided that the beach is not too crowded to set it up. The downside is that they take up more space on the beach and in your bag. Another cut is the beach poncho, which allows you to dry off and change away from prying eyes.

In terms of transport, brands now offer models sold with straps, or folding like a bag with Velcro and straps, like those from Balenciaga.
