Color Block Trend: 3 Tips for Stylish Looks

Want to add a little pep to your outfit? To assert yourself by wearing color? Or even to stand out by daring an unexpected combination? Then, you should take a closer look at the Color Block trend. From the catwalks to the wardrobes of fashionistas, this eye-catching fashion is everywhere. But everyone can make it their own. And that’s the whole point of Color Block: to play powerfully with colors to dare to assert your uniqueness. How do you do it? Stay with us, in this article, we give you 3 tips to learn the art of dressing in color.

What is Color Block (or Color Blocking)?

So, Color Block is the idea of combining strong colors to create a style effect. But what style? Well, your style, the one that will reflect your personality, a bit like an expansion of your own nature by wearing colorful clothes. So, the rule is to have fun, to dare to express yourself. But be careful, not just any way, because there are certain rules that we will talk about later to avoid fashion faux pas.

Because yes, Color Block is also based on the idea of building an outfit around a color, and not around a cut, a piece or a material. So, we focus on the association of several blocks of bright, strong colors whose nuances must be understood. The result should make your outfit coherent, harmonious and stand out with a striking contrast and an eye-catching composition.

If you think that all you have to do is pick colorful clothes from your wardrobe that can be associated at first glance, think again! Adopting the Color Block trend is an art in itself. And it can be learned. We’ll show you how in the rest of the article.

How to embrace the Color Block look and dress with style?

Play with contrast

Creating contrast is one of the keys to successfully achieve your Color Block. To do this, there are two ways to go about it:

  • Emphasize the contrast of colors: this is the most common way to create a style effect, and probably the easiest to implement. For this, choose two colors that are far apart on the color wheel and combine them. The combination should be vibrant! For example: red and blue, yellow and purple, or blue and green work very well.
  • Highlight the contrast of shades within the same color (e.g., khaki green and apple green). With this choice, you can go for a total look without risking bad taste. And it’s also the play of textures that will leave your mark. Go for oversized with a suit or a knit and a flowing skirt. Pair it with a pair of fuchsia pink pumps, and your outfit will be super stylish!

Respect the uniqueness of colors

With Color Block, the focus is on solid colors. By daring to mix and match bold shades, you already bring a touch of fantasy to your outfit. Adding floral patterns or prints could weigh down your outfit. However, some fashionistas manage to brilliantly wear pieces in bold colors and patterns. The exercise is somewhat difficult, but not impossible. If you are an adventurer at heart, and fashion is your playground, all you need to do is find the piece that will enhance your aura. A sleeveless jacquard knit is a good example. It goes very well with a colorful satin shirt.

Have fun!

Last but not least, the key to having style with Color Block is to have fun! Now that you understand how to incorporate the two previous rules to perfect your look, it’s time to dress with uniqueness because, as mentioned earlier, this trend is also a means of expression and power. Wearing color is about embracing a personality, a mood, or a style.

The sparkling orange, the flaming red, the exclaiming pink, the charming purple… each color has the meaning you give it. So, have fun in front of your mirror trying out combinations that reflect the person you want to be. This way of dressing inevitably brings self-confidence and style. Don’t hold back!

Finally, if you need inspiration to perfect your colorful outfit, take a look at the catwalks. Haute couture houses like Bottega Veneta, Galliano, or Yves Saint Laurent have also embraced the flashy style, mastering color codes to perfection.

And don’t limit yourself to clothing style! Have fun coloring your nails, for example. For that, check out our article on Nail Art. It’s a great playground for expressing your identity, just like makeup. So, get your brushes out!
